This position is responsible for overseeing the financial strategy, planning, and financial operations of the company. This leader role provides strategic leadership to ensure financial health, profitability, compliance, and long-term growth, while serving as a key advisor to the President and leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute the company’s financial strategy aligned with business objectives
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to executive leadership and ownership
- Drive financial decision-making for growth initiatives, fleet acquisitions, and capital investments
- Monitor financial KPIs, including cost per mile, fuel efficiency, revenue per load, and operational margins
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting functions
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and management reports
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and liquidity
- Establish and maintain internal controls and financial policies
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations
- Oversee tax planning, filings, audits, and regulatory reporting
- Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies
Operational & Performance Management
- Analyze financial performance and key metrics to support decision-making
- Partner with operations and department leaders to improve profitability and efficiency
- Oversee pricing, cost control, and margin management
Leadership & Team Development
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the President/Owner and executive team
- Lead and develop the finance and accounting team
- Establish performance goals and ensure professional development within the department
Stakeholder & External Relationships
- Manage relationships with banks, lenders, auditors, and financial partners
- Support financing, debt management, and investment activities
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
- CPA, CFA, or MBA preferred
- 8+ years of progressive financial leadership experience
- Proven experience in financial strategy, budgeting, and reporting
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, tax, and regulatory requirements
